This type of poetry,  while sharing qualities with its cousins, is not so vast in scope as the epic (but it does tell  story) nor does it fit into the intense momentary reflections found in lyrical poems (although it may describe moments of high emotion0. The simplest defining quality of this type of verse is that it tells a story or a narrative.
