Genre Type: Tragedy
More than just a sad story, a tragedy should inspire within those who view
or read it a sense that what is happening could happen to any of us.
Aristotle defines a tragic hero as someone not unusually good or bad but
one whose experiences far outweigh whatever flaw he or she may have which
contributed to the terrible fall. It would be wise to check some
of Aristotle's original ideas about tragedy on the Greek
Drama terms page.
