The added commentary for each story is mine (Rearick).
"Introduction" volume I - Larry Niven/3 pages Niven
compares the experience of collaboration which he so enjoys as
like letting friends into one's personal playground. Rules must
be established and then freedom allowed. He mentions several other
examples of this found in science fiction including Media:
Harlan's World (presently unread in Rearick's Library). I
personally wonder whether such collaborations are the stuff of
true writing. The scope of creation seems to be limited in such
stuff. But then who the heck am I? He's the successful writer!
"The Warriors" - Larry Niven [reprint]/20p This
was Niven's first short about the Kzin. As he says in the introduction
they are certainly a long way from the rather developed vision
we have gained in time. Still Niven is the one who fleshed out
the Kzin especially through the appearance of ? in Ringworld
and The Ringworld Engineers.
Iron - Poul Anderson/149p
Cathouse - Dean Ing/109p
